a community rest space at Halesworth Library

Most of us move through our days carrying far more than anyone else can see — and rarely, if ever, give ourselves permission to put it down.

The Care Club is an invitation to do exactly that.

Held after hours at Halesworth Library on three Monday afternoons across October and November, The Care Club is a free, gentle community gathering built around the radical act of rest. Each session lasts an hour, with optional social time until 3.30pm for those who'd like to stay and connect.

Each week centres on one of Suffolk's landscapes — Land, River, and Sky — as a guide into deeper relaxation and a quiet sense of belonging to the natural world. Through simple, invitational activities like relaxing the body, resting with sound and visualisation, gentle movement, and guided imagination, we slow down together. There is nothing you have to do, and nothing you have to be good at. Everything is optional. Join in with as much or as little as feels right for you.

At the heart of The Care Club is a belief that when we rest, we reconnect — with ourselves, with each other, and with the living world around us. The same culture that exhausts us also exhausts the land. Slowing down is not a small thing. It is a way of honouring nature's own pace, and of dreaming, together, about the kind of relationship with the natural world we want to pass on.

The Care Club is for you if:

  • You are living with an invisible disability or chronic health condition, and would welcome a space designed around rest, not performance.

  • You believe that public spaces should support people to rest.

  • You care about nature and want to feel more connected to the Suffolk landscape.

  • You would like to be in the company of others — warmly, gently — without the pressure of small talk.

  • You simply need an hour to stop.

Admission is free. Booking advised. There will be seats and blankets, but you might like to bring your own blanket, cushion or comfortable layers for your personal comfort.
